Travel Tip Tuesday

Image
I'm a fairly regular traveler.  I'm great with packing.  I'm fairly organized and I always have a schedule.  This is why I thought it was hilarious when a friend told me that somehow she managed to book a flight out of Dulles Airport back into Reagan National, when she meant to be flying into and out of BWI.  How could she have done something so ridiculous? Then of course, Karma bit me in the butt, and I did the exact same ridiculous thing.  Somehow I managed to get a steal on airfare ($100 less than I originally thought it would be - I should have known, right?); was on top of the world thinking I was the queen of travel.  Then, realized about 10 minutes later, that instead of the queen of travel, I was just an idiot.  I had thought I was flying out of BWI when I had actually bought tickets out of Reagan.  Smart move, I know. Which brings us to the Travel Tip.  If I wasn't already head over heels in love with Southwest's...

I may be a bit biased but Baltimore was looking quite snazzy this weekend!

My Happy Place

What is it about reading a book that takes place in England, that makes me pine for Great Britain?  I thought I'd gotten over it.  I mean the love's always there, but when I realized it was next to impossible to get a job across the pond, the living there permanently bubble popped.  But after reading 2 books that take place solely in England, I'm right back there again, dreaming of the country side, and market towns.  I can see the green hills and feel the electricity of the city.  But yet, I'm stuck here in good old Maryland... Ugh! It also doesn't help that the dudes at work are leaving for Bristol tomorrow (yep, they get to go to England, while I'm stuck schlepping to DC - Not cool!).  Also, all the fabulous BBC shows are back on PBS and I'm in the midst of planning a trip there for 2015. It's like England is leaving me a message - Come back - we have tea! - but isn't leaving me the cash to do so. How unfair! There's just something ab...

There was a time when I thought it would be awesome to work in DC.  I applied for loads of jobs down there and thought nothing of having to drive to the Metro station then take the train in each morning.  After a fairly disastrous interview in the city, involving a sweaty unending train in the heat of July in an "interview suit" I realized, you couldn't pay me enough to make me do that each day. After another of those trips today, I have to admit, it was a little better.  The train arrived on time, it wasn't a million degrees, I wasn't wearing a ridiculous suit of armor and the only traffic I hit was the usual traffic close to home.  But even with no issues whatsoever, it's still a pain in the butt.   Don't get me wrong, I'm still in love with all things DC.  It's invigorating and exciting and is home to some of the most prolific monuments in the world not to mention some of the biggest Federal agencies and non-profits, but I'm going to g...

Why I Create

Image
I know many people that don't craft, cook or create anything at all.  They'd much rather sit back and pay others to do it for them. I've always thought that the better gift in life is something homemade.  I think that's why I have such a soft spot for Etsy - what's better than getting something completely unique and made especially for you?   However, like I said, not everyone feels the way I do.  And because of that, it can get a little lonely.  Crafty people put so much into whatever they're creating but they may never get to see the outcome of their creation.  Of course, that's not why we do it at all.  We do it because it's fun and it makes us happy.  Making other people happy too is a huge bonus that we may never get to see.  Enter, possibly the best text I've ever received.  I made the card you see above for my Etsy shop.  My coworker loved it and bought it (and coincidentally became my first real customer so she's alrea...

GISHWHES Envy

After an unseemly amount of time trolling Twitter yesterday, I finally found the  2014 GISHWHES list .  I'm sort of obsessed. I really wanted to participate but my biggest fear was that I wasn't brave enough.  Since none of my friends are as crazy as I am, they didn't want to join a team with me.  So I would have been placed on a team.  Therein lies the issue.  I know that I'm a big old ninny and therefore would have let down the 18 other people on my team which is just not cool.  Now that I've seen the list, I know this for a fact: I'm so not brave enough to participate and I was quite smart not to even try!  Holy moly!  I knew the challenges were a little off the wall, but I never thought they'd be this extreme - oh, and AWESOME!  I can't wait to see what the participants accomplish but I'm so glad I'm not responsible for fulfilling the wishes. I'd be a basket case.  Out of 185 items, I'm pretty sure the ones that I'd have the gu...
