My Current Crafty Obsession

Making It - NBC Promo Art |
Now all of that being said, there are a handful of reality shows I will watch. I can't miss Top Chef and Face Off. I love seeing people using their many skills and actually accomplishing something. What's even better, in the last few years on Top Chef, and always on Face Off, the contestants are nice to each other. They help each other out. And there's very little screaming in people's faces.
Because of that love for wholesome, creative and fun reality shows, I was immediately drawn to Making It on NBC, which is my current obsession. I adore it and its nerdiness that it wears on its proverbial sleeve.
First off, the show is hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, two of the funniest and seemingly the kindest people on the planet. Their interest in all of the items the crafters create each week warms my artsy heart. And speaking of the crafters - I spent the season wanting to be friends with all 10 of them. They are the loveliest humans and also they are ridiculously talented. I'm not lying when I tell you this, I liked every single item churned out every single week.
And now thanks to those crafts, I have so many ideas floating around in my handmade-loving brain it's ridiculous! I don't think for a second that I have the sanity or the brainpower to tackle the crafting challenges the contestants were given each week. But I'd like to think I could accomplish a few of the really cool things in my own timeframe. That's the best part of watching crafters do their thing. They have no problem sharing what they're doing. They love to include others in on their fun and give those people the chance to make something wonderful too.
With the finale last night, even though I was routing for one crafter above them all, I wasn't upset when my girl lost (Sorry Jo! Though I'd hire you in a heartbeat to design my entire home!). Every crafter deserved to be there, and honestly anyone could have won, and I would have been a happy crafter. Big congrats goes to Khiem on the win! After seeing what he accomplished in a few hours, I can see why he did in fact come away with the hand-carved giant check - ha!
Happily there'll be another season of this gem coming to a television near you soon - though, until then I have no idea how I'm going to get my fix. I suppose I'll just have to start about a dozen crafting projects...
